And I thank you for those items that you sent me
The monkey and the plywood violin
I practiced every night, now I'm ready
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

    ***

Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panic till I'm gathered safely in
Touch me with your naked hand, touch me with your glove
Dance me to the end of love

Time has steadily slipped between our fingers since Hydra, and hard to believe, but here we are already, with just a few more months until the NY 2004 Event - the time when we gather all of you 'round the log fire here and ask for your assistance and participation with the booklet. Do you have a poem, a drawing, a story to tell? Have you met Leonard or perhaps brushed against his shoulder in the subway, the airport - or whatever? Do you want to tell the rest of us what inspires you to attend the fan gatherings, what it all means to you? Inquiring minds want to know! I invite all of you to send me something regarding your special experience in the Cohen world. I fully expect an overwhelming response, so contact me as soon as possible at chalou@maine.rr.com - and perhaps you too will be published in the NY 2004 booklet!

I also take this opportunity to inform you that I am now beginning to sign up performers for the Open Mic sessions, which will be held on all three evenings. If you have a Cohen song you want to sing, or if Leonard has inspired you to write a song of your own, please contact me now if you want to perform. As it was in Hydra, I am also calling for guitar-playing volunteers to accompany those who want to sing, but don't play, or to those who choose not, or cannot, bring their instruments... thank you in advance!

For those who don't want to sing, but who would like to read/discuss Leonard's poetry (or your own LC inspired work) there will be a separate Poetry Jam just for you, leaving the Open Mic sessions for music/dance only. There will not be a sign-up list for the Poetry Jam, but you should come prepared if you wish to participate.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing you in New York!

    Bobbie
